Budget justifications

At least in my institution, budget submissions for the FY2006 will soon be due. Whenever yours may be, remind department directors and managers that they can turn to the library for information in support of their proposals. I sent out a quick e-mail today, explaining that:

"Gold standard" studies compare performance of a given piece of equipment or a
process to that which came before. Reports of effectiveness, utilization, other
places where service is available can help you to assess supply and demand. All
these can be useful in making your case.

Another group that can benefit from library services are those who deal with insurance payments to the hospital. If there's a disagreement about whether a given procedure is experimental, for example, the literature can provide objective information on which to base decisions.
